Sample Tracker and Matrix LIMS from Autoscribe feature a high degree of functionality and flexibility in the area of testing limits. Limits can be set at the product level (e.g. QC specifications), at the test level (e.g. to represent detection / linear limits), at the sample level (e.g. ad hoc samples with an expected result range) and at the stability sample level (associated with samples subjected to stability testing shelf-life trials). Multiple windows of limits can be specified at each level with a different user warning created depending on the limit exceeded e.g. result rejected (pH 42), result warning etc. In addition, limits can be “applied”. This means that if a lower limit is 5 ppm, for example, and apply limit has been specified, a result entry of 3 ppm, for instance, would be translated automatically into <5 ppm. In other words a result of 3 ppm is not a valid result entry. The notification / Rule based limits are also included. This means that the limits are changed automatically according to a characteristic of the sample. For instance, a blood sample may have different limits for a particular test according to whether the blood originated from a male or female subject or from a different species or sample type. Alternatively, the limits may be changed according to the customer destined to receive a batch of product currently under test or for different country limits. Rolling average limits may also be specified. These limits are based on the results of the last “X” samples and are typically used in environmental studies. Sample Tracker and Matrix LIMS are powerful and flexible solutions for every laboratory and the above examples in the testing limits area demonstrates the detail provided within the system.
