LIMS and Tracking

When a laboratory embarks on a LIMS implementation the process typically begins by referring to a user requirements document that was prepared many months earlier which may not always reflect current needs. As the vendor and customer begin detailed implementation work, both parties usually reach a new level of understanding of what the LIMS is required to do.

As the implementation progresses, the LIMS is moulded to meet the user requirements – a process which often requires a measure of compromise by both parties depending on the flexibility of the LIMS. Once the LIMS is in production it will be expected to have a lifetime extending over many years and, during this time, there are likely to be numerous requests to modify or extend the capabilities of the system.
